What is a Local Authority credit?
Some Local Authorities, such as your local council partner with Carefree to help fund breaks for unpaid carers in their area. They do this by purchasing break credits on your behalf, so that when you book a break, the usual £38 administration fee is covered for you.
If your Local Authority has purchased credits for carers in your district, you may be offered the option to use one when you make a break request at no cost to you.
How does Carefree know I'm eligible?
When you register with Carefree and request a break, we match your postcode against the districts where Local Authority credits are available. If your postcode falls within a participating LA's area, we'll let you know that a sponsored credit may be available to you.
You are never automatically signed up, we will always ask for your agreement before using a credit on your behalf.
What information is shared with my Local Authority?
If you choose to use an LA-sponsored credit, we will share a small amount of information with your Local Authority to confirm the credit has been used. This includes:
Your name
Your postcode
The hotel where your break is taking place
Your check-in date
No other personal information is shared. Your Local Authority will not have access to your Carefree account, your caring situation, or any other details about you.
Do I have to use the credit?
No. Using an LA-sponsored credit is entirely your choice. If you would prefer not to, you can pay the £38 administration fee yourself as normal, your break request will not be affected either way.
