We've introduced Vouchsafe as another option for ID verification of unpaid carers across the UK, as we understand that not every person has a valid form of ID.
If you've been asked to be a referee, this is the email you will receive.
Scanning your photo ID
If you’re using Vouchsafe to help someone verify ID, we will ask you to scan your photo identification.
Acceptable ID
The ID you use must be in date. Generally, you can use these forms of photo ID:
Passport
UK driving licence
UK provisional driving licence
Why we need photo ID
A photo ID is one of the best ways for us to confirm your identity. It helps us:
Check that your identity document is authentic, and matches official records
Prevent identity fraud by confirming that the person in your video selfie matches the identity being verified
Comply with regulations which may be needed by the organisation you’re identifying your identity to
Tips for successful ID scans
Here are some tips to help make the scan successful:
Use an original identification document, not a copy or scan
Take the selfie somewhere with good lighting — not too dark, but not too bright
Make sure all the details are visible
Passports
If you’re using a passport:
Open your passport to the photo page (which has your picture, name, passport number and other information)
Position only the photo page in the frame, not the page above
Driving licences
If you’re using a driving licence of provisional driving licence, keep the ID card in frame so all the details are visible.
Taking a video selfie
Whether you’re a Vouchsafe user or referee, we may ask you to take a video selfie to help verify your identity.
